The Eastern Pacific hurricane season starts two weeks earlier than the Atlantic season — May 15 — and runs through November 30, covering most of the Mexican Riviera sailing calendar. Peak activity falls between August and October.
Cabo San Lucas, at the exposed southern tip of the Baja Peninsula, sees the most direct storm impact of the three classic Mexican Riviera ports. Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlan, tucked further along the mainland coast, are somewhat more sheltered but not immune.
As with the Atlantic season, cruise lines reroute around storms rather than sail through them. November through April — outside this window entirely — remains the most reliable stretch for dry, storm-free Mexican Riviera weather.
